What to do, what to do

New years is coming... or so they tell me.

With that, I'm sure y'all are all wondering just what I'm going to do for the big day.

Not too much.

I'm going to the Texans game with one of my friends. This time, a blogless one. He's too boring to blog.

Thankfully, he doesn't read this place.

At least I don't think he does.

That would be an awkward moment tomorrow:

"Dude, I saw what you said about me on your blog."

"Oh @#%$"

Anyways, after the game we may do something, but I don't know. I've gotta drive back to Beaumont, so there won't be alcohol involved I'm sure.

Once we get back to Beaumont, I plan to stay home.

I just don't have a big desire to go out and get wasted with the throngs that will be welcoming in the new year.

I can get wasted just as easily at my place. Which is good, because then you don't have to drive anywhere AND there aren't any drunk idiots wanting to start something stupid.

Then again, I'd also miss all the stylish drunks. They're always fun, but not TRULY enjoyed unless you're sober.

Truth be told, I'd be too tired to go out after the game anyways.

Oh well. All of y'all that are going out can have a drink (or twelve) for me.

Petey in denial

Petey's a jealous dog.

He growls at us sometimes when the other dogs are getting attention and he doesn't.

Can you believe this boy? He's telling LIES about me! I mean, look at this sweet, innocent face. I would NEVER do something like that!!!

I know what I've seen Petey, I know what I've seen

Time off

I'm going to take a few days away from this place.

Take some R&R.

Do something fun.

Maybe visit a casino in Lake Charles.

I don't know what I'm gonna do.

It jsut won't be blogging... for a few days.

All of y'all have a Merry Christmas, happy new year, and all that good crap.

See y'all on the flip side.

Seeing is not always believing

Indianapolis 24, Houston 27

Indy falls to 11-4, the Texans improve to 5-10

I thought they would lose by 40... or more.

Much more.

The whole game felt like a dream... I slapped myself a few times when they were up 14-0 a few times just to make sure.

I don't think anybody in that building besides the 53 Texans players and coaching staff really thought they had a chance today.

But they pulled off the upset of the year.

And it was a freakin blast!

A statement

It is with great pleasure that I, Sir Bruiser the Imp, humbly accept the position of The Feline Theocracy's Holy Ambassador to the Kingdom of Dogs. I would like to thank K T Cat for this honor.

This is a great honor and a wonderful chance for our two species to work together to make the world a better place.

Hopefully, through my work, someday dogs and cats will be able to stand together as one, coughing up hairballs, sniffing each other's butts, and delivering random licking attacks on unsuspecting humans on a scale that has never been seen before.

Again, this is a great honor and I look forward to working with our feline companions.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need outside to go pee.

If that other game would piss off PETA...

...then this one would make their heads explode.

Taking the ego out of blogging

For some reason, I feel like throwing the entire blogging world on it's head right now.

Blame iheartblackeyes over at mainly random. for that.

She'd IM's me to tell me she was going on a holiday from blogging and we gpt tp talking about stuff... and it got me thinking... and I've come to one conclusion.

Fuck statistics.

I've never really looked at the stats much anyway, but some people really get into them.

I started blogging because, well, a chick talked me into it.

That's how guys get into a lot of stuff, right? But I digress.

In the two years I've had this place, I've made a handfull of great connections. Great people that, otherwise, I would have never come across.

To me, that's what this whole thing is about. Making connections and having fun.

I just wish more people would see it that way.

Walking into an ass-kicking

That's the only way I can think to describe what I'm gonna be doing Sunday.

On Sunday, the 11-3 Indianapolis Colts come to Reliant Stadium to play the Hapless 4-10 Texans.

It's gonna be ugly.

Real ugly.

But how ugly will it be?

Alright, think of the biggest, baddest guy in your high school. Then picture him getting in a fight with the retarded kid.

Yea, it's gonna be something like that.

They lost to Indy 42-23 back in September but most of the points the Texans put up were late in the game when Indy had taken their starters out of the game.

But it's gonna be bearable... even if I'm not gonna be drinking at the game.

Because. even with my tendency to piss people off, I probably shouldn't show up drunk at Christmas Eve services. I just don't think it would go over well for some reason.

Oh, wait, you wanted to know why it's gonna be bearable?

Someone's meeting me up there and their "quirks," for lack of a better word, will keep things lively in my section... not that there was ever really a problem with that up there.

But who is it?

I'm not gonna tell you. At least not until after the game on Sunday.

Feel free to speculate in the comments.

Bruiser goes climbing

It's Friday, so that means dogblogging... you know, whenever I actually remember to do it.

Anyways, this week we've got Bruiser on an expedition:

I've found something up here!!!

Then he started flipping the channels looking for a dog to bark at.

You, too, can help David Carr...

In his latest animated editorial cartoon, the Houston Chronicle's Nick Anderson made an interactive, allowing you to help Texans Quarterback David Carr make a big play by simply clicking on a reciever.

Having watched that pathetic excuse for a football team all year I can certainly say that he nailed it.

The Blogroll

I'll be adding things to it as I see fit, but that's what I have now.

As far as the blogs on there, let's take a look.

  • Bad Example - Harvey's blogging is grest stuff to read. If just for the naughty comments on the love notes.
  • Blogs For House - This place screams "I want to be Blogs4Bauer," but I like the show, so I read it.
  • Blogs4Bauer - I'm a 24 addict, need I say more? Ok, I will. There may be a lot of 24 blogs out there, but this one kicks everybody else's ass. By a longshot. And it's funny, to boot.
  • Deadspin - Sports and (occasionally) other stuff. What it lacks in access, it more than makes up for in attitude. Without them, most of us would never know about You're with me, leather or Carl Monday.
  • Dig & Scratch - Got an email about this one last week. It's written by pet owners in NYC and has some spunk to it. I like spunk.
  • DogBytes - A MUCH tamer blog about dogs, written by a dog behavioral therapist and store owner in Houston. Occasionally there's something on there that I like
  • IMAO - Frank J. Must I say more?
  • Lone Star Times - It's a conservative Houston blog. A bit too conservative for my tastes, but they have some funny stuff once in a while.
  • Lopez@Large - Probably the sports columnist at the Chronicle that I think is an idiot the least, of that makes any sense.
  • Mainly random. - Did I ever mention that I like attitude in a blog? Cause she's got it. A lot of it. Maybe too much, if that's possible.
  • Mama Drama - A bunch of Houston-area moms that blog about being moms. There is some REALLY funny stuff on there.
  • mountaineer musing - Cadet Happy's project making fun of the next blogger on my list.
  • mountaineer musings - Poor sarahk. What the heck was the girl thinking, moving from Texas? Yea, I know. She got married to Frank J. I really can't say why I like it, but I do.
  • PhotoJournalism - Mark's a photog for the local paper. He posts some of his pics here. He's good.
  • PokerTable - It doesn't get updated much, but it's about poker. Matt Dean, the writer, finished 7th in the 2004 WSOP Main Event (the year Greg Raymer won), so I figure he knows a bit about it
  • Rusty's World - A local TV morning show anchor's blog. He'd stopped blogging earlier this year after getting a lot of crap over something that anybody in the public eye shouldn't blog about much, his personal life. But he came back a couple months ago.
  • TechBlog - The place I go to find out about tech stuff.
  • The Scratching Post - The place to check in on who's really in charge.
  • This Blog Is Full Of Crap - Unlike most bloggers, at least Lair admits that he is.
  • Through our eyes - That blog I do with the local paper that would have died a long time ago had Pete not talked me into writing for it.

As I said, I'll be adding stuff to the blogroll all the time, so keep an eye on it to see if there's anything you like :)

BREAKING NEWS - Bush: More troops to be added to Army, Marines

WASHINGTON, D.C. (JRT) - President Bush today announced that more soldiers were necessary in the Army and Marines to defend the US against all evils.

"We must be ready for anything," Bush said.

Sources close to the White House are suggesting that Bush is planning to launch an attack against the tooth fairy in the future for "failing us all"

"[Bush] lost a tooth last week when he whacked himself in the mouth with a Nintendo Wii controller," a White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "The tooth fairy never gave him his dollar, so he's pretty pissed."

The same source also said that he would be willing to negotiate with the tooth fairy if she could help with a win in Iraq.

A Justin's Random Thoughts Public Service Announcement

(Hat-tip: Lone Star Times)

I'd like to think that my readers aren't total dumbasses, but that would be quite naive of me.

So, for those of you that are dumbasses, here's how to not get your dumb ass kicked by the police:

Then again, if you ask John Kerry, you're probably in Iraq if you're a dumbass.

UPDATE: This is my 500th post, so YAY!!!

So the little buggers can be cute

I think I've managed to establish that I'm more of a dog person.

But I don't mind cats. Not at all.

We went by our vets office on Monday to pick up a refill of some meds for Bear when they had a 3 1/2 week old kitten at the counter.

So. Freaking. Adorable.

Don't ask me what kind... I just know that she was black with gray stripes.

But she was cute.

Pro Bowl voters: Andre Johnson is the Texan that sucks the least

Houston Chronicle - Texans' Andre Johnson will go to Pro Bowl

Andre Johnson earned his second trip to the NFL Pro Bowl and will be the lone representative of the Texans in Honolulu.

"I really can’t begin to talk about how well he’s played because you see the number and just to tell you he’s getting those numbers when everybody in the business is trying to take him away from us," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It’s a credit to him. We move him all over the place to try and get him the ball. He’s been very sharp; he hasn’t missed a day of practice."

Good for him.

Maybe this offseason we can send David Carr to the toilet bowl and get someone who's willing to throw something other than a bunch of short passes that pad his 82.1 QB rating on the season after completing four passes on Sunday... TO THE PATRIOTS!!!

If someone asked we weither I'd like to drink a bottle of lighter fluid and then swallow a lit match or go to the Texans-Colts game Sunday I'd have to seriously think about it.

I mean dying from your insides going up in flames like a California wildfire couldn't be any worse than walking into a definate slaughter, right?

I've stopped trying

I've had this blog for a long time.

It started as something that I really didn't have much interest in, so I updated maybe two or three times a month.

Then I discovered what all is out there in the blogosphere.

A guy whose own blog title says that he's full of crap showed me the light of what a blog can be... and I decided that I'd truly let this place be an extension of myself.

But it hasn't been a full extension of me, because I've kinda tried (poorly) to keep it clean.

Well I'm gonna stop trying to which means MORE CUSS WORDS! YAY!!!

sarahk would be shaking her head right now if she read my blog.

I'd just tell her to kiss my pinkytoe.

Little kids probably aren't reading this place anyways... they're all doing whatever the hell little kids do these days, like spending way too much time on MySpace talking to their friends about how much their history teacher sucks.

That'd be better than cross-dressing, which at least one of my reader's little brothers does...

I thought about getting him a dress for christmas, but I figure it's best to not encourage him.

No, really. I am.

As is anybody else who puts things on the web.

So that means I'm sharing the title with all the emo kids on MySpace, Mr. Crap, Frank J. and his gang, and *gasp* even the Instapuppyblender.

Come join us by leaving a comment.

The continuing saga that is Bear

The fungus test came back earlier than expected.

It's a fungus, but not one of the normal ones... neither the specialist or the pathologist could identify what it was.

They took Bear off the steroids (because of their tendency to weaken the immune system) and put him on a pretty strong anti-fungal.

Our vet also had to draw a vile of blood to send to a fungal expert at LSU who can test to see what it is.

We'll know what we're looking at better after we hear back from her.

The vet called

Here's the short story on Bear:

The biopsy came back normal, but the lab screwed up and didn't do the fungal test on it that he ordered, so they're doing that now.

Naturally they don't read the directions.

He's prescribing a steroid and antibiotics for Bear and we're supposed to call back Monday to get the updated results and all that good stuff.

He also said that Bear would probably need surgery, but that it wouldn't be until after the new year, which is two to three weeks away.

Now, can somebody help me get ahold of that dumbass lab technician so I can rip them a new asshole for not following simple, written out directions? Fucking inexcusable.

Justin's Random Swag

I decided to take another plunge today and open up a CafePress shop.

Take a look and feel free to buy anything that you think might be calling your name.

UPDATE: I ordered the magnets to stick on our fridge... you know, just in case I have amnesia and can't remember the dog's names and my blog's URL or something... :)

And this one from Laurence, which I thought was too funny to pass up.

Ive finally been able to move over to Blogger Beta, but the move has left us with a few changes.

  • A flashback to the old look. I wanted to be able to do the drag-and-drop widget moving and it's too much work to update the template to be capable of that.
  • Haloscan is gone. I couldn't figure out how to implement the Haloscan code in the new template, so it's gone. I'll probably re-implement trackbacks when they get the official fix done.
  • Sidebar makeover. I'm cutting out a few things, and maybe will add some more later.

That's all I've got for now. Have fun :)

Taking the plunge

I'm gonna roll the dice and move over to the new version of blogger.

After I post this.

EDIT: Or not. It won't let me do it right now.

Making good

Nothing yet

Bear's specialist didn't call today, so the biopsy results obviously aren't in yet.

So we should know tomorrow what we're looking at with him.

And probably be going to Houston on Wednesday...

The sick ones get all the attention

Bear, whose recent medical problems have been documented here, doesn't ever seem to get his picture posted.

That's because he's pretty camera shy. He usually runs and hides when I get it out. The other two, on the other hand, are fascinated by it.

With Bear's recent problems, I've decided to dig around and post a few good pictures of him that I took a couple months back in one of his rare times he wasn't camera shy.

Don't you just love me?

Don't look at me! Petey and Bruiser are over there getting into trouble!!!

She loves me! She really loves me!!!

Yes Bear, we all love you.

For what it's worth, that's my grandmother in the picture with him. She'd kill me if she knew that I posted a picture of her on here. Just don't tell her, ok? ;)

Bear's ordeal

We left about 7:15 this morning and got Bear to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston.

He was referred to them for them to take a look at what's basically a growth in his colon that's restricting poop from coming out.

We got there and the place creeped me out a little for the simple fact that it looked more like a hospital than a vet's office.

Anyways, once we got in to see the vet, he told us that they were going to run a bunch of tests: X-rays, bloodwork, an ultrasound, a colonoscopy, and taking a few biopsy samples. He also told us that we had about 5 hours to go Christmas shopping or whatever else we wanted to do.

So we did.

When we got back, he explained everything that they found in terms that were about as understandable as they can be for someone who doesn't know a lick about medicine.

Basically he's got a stricture, or a circular growth, in there that has a pretty small hole left and two other growth farther out that they believed were connected. Based on the x-ray and bloodwork they think that the cause is likely an infection of some sort, but they're not going to say for sure until they get the biopsy report back from the pathologist on Monday or Tuesday.

When that comes back, we'll figure out what to do next.

Believe me, he's happy to be home after all that.

Returning from whence you came... sorta

Bear got referred to a specialist today.

He's going with us to Houston tomorrow... somewhere he hasn't been since he was about 7 weeks old.

Election night 2004. The day we brought him home from the breeder.

Granted he's not going back to where he came from... the Vet's office is on the West Loop and the breeder lived somewhere around the Northwest Freeway and Antoine.

Obviously, it's something that needs to be done... may require surgery... He's family so he's gonna get whatever he needs.

It'll be interesting. And something I'll blog about tomorrow when I get home.

Whenever that is.

This is gonna be a busy weekend.

The first-place Wildcatters are back in town for three games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

Ladies night on Saturday will be interesting... for this reason:

Guys wanting to take advantage of this special night, come dressed the part and get your discount!

No. I'm not going to show up and do my Britney Spears impersonation. I don't have the bod.

Well... that and I don't want pictures of my bits and pieces all over the web, but I talked about that last week.

Oh yes, the Texans also host the Titans on Sunday. That's always an interesting game, if just for the no-good, traitorous sucmbag on the Titans side.

Just don't ask me to talk on Monday. I'm sure I won't have a voice by then.
