Today I wanted to be able to run a photo from my expedition to the Phoenix zoo last week, but while I was unpacking I managed to misplace my camera’s memory card and still haven’t found it.

I’m sure all three of my readers are all “Wait, when did you go to Phoenix?” I left last week, silly! You’d know that if you followed me on Twitter! You’d also be able to figure out why I went, unless you’re really that incredibly dense.

I guess I’ll have to make a trip back if that memory card never turns up. Ya know, I really hate to, but I think I might stomach it anyway…

Now it’s time for me to tell my own Santa story.

When I was in high school, every year at church we took a Saturday and watched everybody’s kids so their parents could go out and shop that day. One of the highlights was that Santa would come and we’d take pictures of all the kids with him for their parents.

Well, the last Santa visit of the day one year, I got drafted to play the big guy. I got the suit on and went in to greet the kids, sat down, and did the pictures. As I was leaving, some of the bigger kids realized it was me and tackled me and started to take the suit off of me.

I think they knew because my “Santa voice” sucked.

So, I’ve been Santa. And I was assaulted by 4th graders. Now you know.

Update on the computer problems

I took the computer apart and debugged, thinking I found why it wouldn’t start and dreading what it would cost for me to fix it.

And then last night I hit the power button just for the hell of it and it started up just fine and has been working perfectly since.

I’m hoping that it was just some weird glitch, but who knows. I won’t be breathing easy for a while…

Blogging will be light because my computer has decided to put my troubleshooting skills to the test and I haven't passed it yet. I've got it narrowed down to two or three things, I just have to do some testing on it to rule things out.

Regular blogging will likely not resume until after Thanksgiving since I'll be out of town anyway. Not that I've been blogging regularly anyway, but still...

Twitter lists: Great idea, but useless so far

Yesterday, I became one of the five percent of Twitter users to get the new “lists” feature, which allows you to sort the people you follow into groups and view all their tweets separately fron the normal timeline.

Just one problem, though. As far as I’m concerned, the feature is useless.

You should just be able to check a box and, BAM, they’re added to that list. Well, it doesn’t work that way. A good portion of the time I’m having to check the box multiple times for it to take, if it will take at all

So, Twitter, please wait until a feature’s ready for prime time before you roll it out.

Yesterday morning I had an eye doctor’s appointment in Houston. When I got out, I decided to take a trek, with my camera, to the Houston Zoo to take some pictures.

It was a hell of a lot of fun, I’ve only really got one gripe about the whole experience and that was the weather. It was cloudy with a little rain and I would have much preferred sunny weather so the animals’ colors would have a little more pop, but oh well. The cloudiness does eliminate harsh shadows, though, so that’s a win.

Anyway, here’s a preview:

Twins over Tigers - Twins are 7-2 against Detroit in The Met, need I say more?

• ALDS:

Yankees over Twins - I think this one will go five games.
Angels over Red Sox - The Angels do us all a favor and save us from the hype of another Sox-Yanks ALCS.

• NLDS:

Cardinals over Dodgers - The Dodgers limped into the post-season, and they'll limp out. Cardinals sweep.
Rockies over Phillies - Rockies are hot, Phillies closer situation is a mess. Rox in 4.

• ALCS:

Angels over Yankees - They split the season series and Yankees have home field, but the Angels are playing for Adenhart (who they must have *really* liked) and I'm thinking that might be enough to push them over. Well, that and I hate the Yankees. I'm looking for this one to go six or seven.

• NLCS:

Rockies over Cardinals - Rockies went 6-1 against the Cards, including a four-game sweep at Busch. Rockies sew it up in five.

• World Series:

Angels over Rockies - This has the potential to be a good series. When the teams met in the regular season, the Angels took two of three in Anaheim. Angels gt it done in six, I think.

Of course, what I'd love to see is a Dodgers-Yankees series that ends with Joe Torre beating his former team. But that'll never happen.

A team of researchers from the US, Denmark and New Zealand have discovered a process through which a prevalent biogenic nonmethane hydrocarbon compound emitted by trees—isoprene—forms atmospheric particulate matter (i.e., secondary organic aerosol). The results are published in the 7 August issue of the journal Science.

Aerosols impact human health, due to their ability to penetrate deep into lungs, and impact Earth’s climate through the scattering and absorption of solar radiation and through serving as the nuclei on which clouds form, noted co-author Prof. John Seinfeld from Caltech. “So it is important to know where particles come from.”
