Evil Glenn's new business venture

(A Filthy Lie)

The root of all things evil, Glenn Reynolds of InstaPundit.com, recently blogged about a book that one of his colleagues at the University of Tennessee co-wrote. In the post, he mentioned his brother's job where he boiled corpses in terpentine. Glenn said something about that being an exciting weekend.

That begs the question, what does Glenn do on the weekends?

My sources at the the U of T, who have provided me with reliable information before, informed me that Glenn is actually working on getting his own fast food chain started up.

As we all know, Evil Glenn has hobo-murdering tendencies. So it really shouldn't surprise us that the restraunt goes along with these tendencies.

And the restraunt's name? Tennessee Fried Hobos.

Glenn's hoping to hit it big with what he plans to be the signature dish, the three piece meal with a side of blended puppy.

My sources have even obtained a copy of the logo Glenn had drawn up.

My apologies, but that was the best quality logo that we could obtain.

I really, really hope that Glenn doesn't have any success with this.

As seen on Countdown with Keith Olbermann

This video, which they say is of the Italian prime minister, has made many appearances on Olbermann's Oddball segment recently.

I'd really like to find a .wmv (or something like that) and put this to music with a few effects.

Most likely, the song would be Nickelback's Figured You Out (lyrics).

Ever feel like you're being gunned for???

I sure did in Houston today.

It was not good.

I narrowly avoided three or four wrecks, then decided to come home, where I narrowly avoided another one.

Didn't help that there was some rain.

for those that must know...

Yes, I have plans already. And no, I'm not driving :D

Very well said

The Trash Palace: Parenthood, Nightmares and Tragedy

It's a VERY well-written blog entry by one of the managing editors of the local paper.

My Final 4 Predictions

Yay! A sports-related post!!!

Anywho, I've got UCLA over LSU and George Mason Florida over Florida George Mason on Saturday.

George Mason UCLA Florida will take care of UCLA Florida UCLA on Monday night and win it all.

I'll be sure to post how my predictions turned out. It's not like I'd ever probably stoop low enough to go back and edit this post or nothin...

I really should do more posts like this. Maybe I'll audioblog opening day.

Maybe I should shave more often

...I'd hate for this to happen...

Thoughts and prayers sent out to everybody at my old high school

Chron.com: Multiple injuries, fatalities after school bus crash

Local sources are reporting that it was the West Brook girls soccer team. West Brook is my old high school.

The seniors on that team were fish the year I graduated.

This is just another thing that doesn't need to be lumped on the seniors this year. Rita was hell enough.

I feel bad for them, and not just because my brother's one of the seniors this year. Your senior year should be a good one, and this one has sucked for them to say the least.

**sigh**

UPDATE: KFDM is now reporting that there were two fatalities.

Rain

The past two days it's been raining.

It sucks. I hate it when it rains. Makes me just wanna sleep.

But we need it, a couple inches will help out a little.

Just don't rain Friday, that won't make for a fun drive to IAH to drop off my cousin for her trip to Ireland.

Or the rest of my day in Houston, since she's gonna be dropped off by 10:00 that mornin.

THAT won't be fun.

Finally I have found out . . .

. . . what the internet is for.

And no, it's not blogging.

This is borderline NSFW, so you'll just get a link.

I'd recommend headphones.

Oh, and K T Cat, this has something to do with a recent post of yours...

Why they get along so well...

George H.W. BushAs we all know, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush (the old one) have been working together on Tsunami and Katrina relief efforts.

But everybody asks how the heck they work together so well.

I seem to have stumbled upon the reason, simply by accident.

The below photo was shot at a meeting between the two.

That's not Clinton's dog, it's George's.

OK, come on, admit it. You laughed.

Jack speaks through me

The 24 Report"Am I dead?"

"Yes, I know, there was an explosion. Am I dead?"

"DAMMIT, I DON"T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. AM I DEAD OR NOT???"

"Just tell me now ot I promise you that I'll make this MUCH harder on you."

"You probably don't think that I can force this towel down your throat. But trust me, I can. All the way. Except I'd hold onto this one little bit at the end. When your stomach starts to digest it, I pull it out. Taking your stomach lining with it. For most people it would take about a week to die. It's very painful."

"Just tell me and I won't have to do it."

"DAMMIT!!! I'm gonna need a hacksaw."

Say it aint so...

Bagwell placed on DL

I had a feeling he was done. I don't like it.

It's tough to see your favorite player since you were like six go out like this.

I'll still wear my Baggy jersey to Opening Day next week.

That reminds me, I have to tape 24 next week since I'm gonna be at the ballpark.

The 24 Report (long edition) is retiring

The 24 ReportI'm too lazy to put in the work for the long ones, but I'll keep on with posting my thoughts.

It's just too much work to put that together every week.

How many Final Four picks did you have?

I had one, UCLA.

And I had them losing to Duke in the next round.

How this thing has gone, I'd have to say that George Mason just might win it all.

A public service announcement from JRT

(A Precision Guided Humor Assignment)

Michelle Malkin recently blogged about going to an anti-war protest with a less-than-stellar turnout.

Since Justin's Random Thoughts is a totally non-partisan (just like the MSM), I thought I'd share my ideas on how to get more people at the protests.

  • Make sure that there's plenty of free green available. You know, mary jane, mauie wowie, wacky tobaccy, reefer, the 11th special herb in KFC's recipe. That'll help get out the hippie crowd. And Willie Nelson, although I hear that his stuff is quite potent.
  • Lots of food, and a very large variety. That way the hippies don't leave after they light up and get the munchies. It should also help attract Michael Moore.
  • Provide deodorant and portable showers and encourage their use because nobody likes smelly protesters.
  • Plenty of private security to keep away the counter-protesters and cops.
  • Petition your state's D.O.T. to put up signs on local freeways to direct folks to the sites. The signs could look a little something like this:
    Click for full size
(Made using Kurumi.com's SignMaker with a few tweaks by me)
  • Promise an appearance by this year's ultimate cinderella, George Mason. That'll get a lot of basketball fans out, and maybe even the guy who played George Mason on 24, since he's apparently a really big fan.

I hope this helps y'all get better attendance.

My sources have spoken again!!!

I just got an email from a connection I have in the Los Angeles area. He informed me that Xander Berkeley, who played George Mason in the first two seasons of 24, had a special suit tailored after the first weekends of the NCAA's to root for his new favorite team.

He also attached a photo, which is shown below.

Wonder who he's rooting for...

Long night

I worked a concert tonight out at Ford Park.

George Jones and Merle Haggard.

I didn't catch much of the music since I was "working" backstage most of the night. By "working," I mean sitting in a chair and making sure that people had credentials to be back there.

I did get to go out for the last half-hour because the person who was sitting on the right end of the stage keeping people that didn't belong from getting backstage disappeared.

Now I've got He Stopped Loving Her Today stuck in my head.

I like that song.

It's one of the better concerts I've worked, right up there with PUddle of Mudd, 3 Doors Down and ZZ Top.

More photoshop stuff...

This is my entry for this weekends Blogs4Bauer caption/photoshop contest. It came to me through the caption ideas that were left already.

Jack: "Colette, I've got something for you in a bag in the backseat of my car. Put it on and meet me in room 712 in ten minutes. Here's a key."

I'm happy with that one, but it wasn't easy. If you click on the link to the contest page you'll see the original.

I've never done this much work on one before.

My bracket is now officially trashed...

I had Duke making the championship game, need I say more?

Too many balls for one day

I was thinking about going to the driving range before bowling tonight and hitting a bucket of balls just for the hell of it, but changed my mind.

A guy can only take so much frustration, ya know.

Songs

I can't keep it to thirteen like K T Cat's post over at The Scratching Post. I think I'll go with 20... some with explinations.

  1. Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life): I'm still mad at my senior class for not picking this as the class song.
  2. Nickelback - Photograph: Only song that's ever made me cry, getting uprooted from home for two weeks will do that to ya.
  3. Hoobastank - The Reason: Seems almost like the story of my life.
  4. Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends
  5. Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams
  6. Seether - Remedy
  7. Toby Keith - How Do You Like Me Now?: The song that brought Toby to where he is now, and the one that caught my attention.
  8. Big & Rich - Big Time: Kind of a "do your own thing" kinda song.
  9. Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia
  10. Toby Keith - Weed With Willie: If you ever heard it, you wouldn't ask why. :)
  11. Hinder - Homecoming Queen: Yea, that's the one under About Me
  12. Toby Keith - American Soldier
  13. Norah Jones - Don't Know Why: I don't know why I like this one so much, but I do. Pardon the pun.
  14. Theory of a Deadman - No Surprise: First time I heard it, I thought of an ex-girlfriend. I laughed.
  15. Toby Keith - As Good As I Once Was
  16. Puddle Of Mudd - Away From Me
  17. Nickelback - Rockstar: Gotta love celebs making fun of being a celeb.
  18. Gary Allan - Tough Little Boys: Tugs at that sift side of mine that doesn't show much.
  19. Gary Allan - Nothing on But the Radio: I thought everybody had a gettin' it on song.
  20. Big & Rich - Rollin (The Ballad of Big & Rich): Kinda like "Big Time" but different at the same time.

Six months ago today . . .

. . . I drove for 22 straight hours.

OK, so there were two stops that were about an hour each and I basically idled for the first 20, so sue me.

That was most of our evacuation to Fort Worth ahead of Rita.

I didn't stop by choice. When I was on the loop in Tyler (because you have to be nuts to actually drive through that town) I was so tired that I had to stop... after obliviously blazing through a school zone and almost getting in a wreck.

My brother took over.

Roughly three hours later, we were in Fort Worth.

I slept all day pretty much.

Wonder why I wanna move now???

See, I can send semi-nice emails to people that piss me off

Mississippi Sea Wolves 3.21.06 press release

The section of note (underlining by the team):

Our fans are also asking why the Texas Wildcatters were given a new lease that included free rent for two years just to keep the team in Beaumont after Hurricane Rita cancelled their 2005-06 season. Unlike the Sea Wolves who lost everything from staplers to skate sharpeners, the Wildcatters, sustained no physical loses yet they are being given incentives to remain in Texas.

And my response:

Mike,

Explain something to me, please. What does the situation with the Wildcatters have to do with your team? Why does it matter? How do the situations compare?

As I know you've been made aware, the new lease was negotiated to prevent a lawsuit because our facilities were, in fact, available for the season when we were told they wouldn't be. FEMA, who was using Ford Park as a staging area, had left the complex a week before the season would have started.

Last I checked, that's not what happened in Mississippi.

Don't get me wrong here, I know what hurricanes do all too well. I spent 20 hours in a car to get 100 miles ahead of Rita and came home to a tree on our roof and a shed missing a roof, among other things. But your losses are not a legitimate reason for a professional organization to act like a bunch of whiny second graders complaining that one kid's slice of pizza is bigger.

Anyways, back to my question. How do they compare?

They don't.

All I ask for is an apology to us, the Texas Wildcatters fans, and a retraction.

Thanks,

Justin

We'll see how the response is. Let's just say that if Mike makes this ugly, I'll out-ugly him in a heartbeat.

I'm not someone you wanna piss off.

UPDATE: I got a response, he tells me that he didn't write the release, he was just told to post it. I wrote back asking how to get ahold of the person that did write it.

UPDATE 2.0: got a RE, he says he'll pass it on. I'd be surprised as heck if he really does.

Over the river and through the woods

(A Filthy Lie)

Evil Glenn recently said that he enjoyed visiting with his grandmother.

Why, you ask?

Well, I contacted my sources at the University of Tennessee who "volunteered" this interesting tidbit:

Glenn Reynolds' grandmother is none other than Paris Hilton.

Yes, that Paris Hilton. The human ironing board, 2005's most-hated celebrity and the only known carrier of every STD in existence.

I know it sounds crazy, but the girl gets around. A lot. So it's entirely plausible.

And, really, when is hanging around with a dingy blonde not fun?

My source couldn't tell me if there were any "home-made videos" recorded. Let's hope that they didn't.

The Great Lego- U.N. Debate

Read about it here.

ROFL!!!

OK, I'll throw in another line so this doesn't look too much like an Evil Glenn entry.

The Nose a traitor???

The 24 ReportThe hot chick said it was Audrey who sold her the schematics.

Sadly, I think it's BS. As much as I hate Audrey, I don't think she'd do it.

Then again, who would have suspected Nina in season one?

Looks like Jack and Audrey are gonna have a talk... just not involving feelings or chamomile tea.

I can't wait :)

Out driving with nowhere to go

I got thrown by one of those dynamic message signs in Winnie... it said:

FERRY WAIT TIME
EST 15 MIN
AT 8:00 PM

For those that don't know, the Bolivar ferry is the shortest route to Galveston from Beaumont and I guess since it's spring break TranStar is actually giving out the wait times since they only do when the ferry is busy.

Since I had nowhere to be and all the time in the world I decided to go down and take a ride. It's about a 50 mile drive from the SH 124 exit (just past the sign) to the ferry's dock, about all the way being two lane roads. Here's a map with the route from IH-10 to the landing marked.

Well, by the time I got to the landing (a little before 9) there was no wait. In fact, I got there just as they were loading one up and drove right on.

The wind was coming in pretty strong off of the gulf so the ride wasn't exactly the smoothest ever, but I wasn't complaining. I don't think I've rode it since middle school.

I decided to go back home the looooooooooooong way, through Houston.

I enjoied it.

Glad I don't live off of 290!!!

U.S. 290 shut down after man jumps

A man died after jumping off the Little York overpass onto U.S. Highway 290 and being struck by an 18-wheeler during the noon hour today, Precinct 2 Assistant Chief Constable J.C. Mosier said.

Traffic on the Northwest Freeway is bad enough without this.

They better get that cleaned out before rush hour or this'll look almost as bad as the Rita evacuation.

Random Thoughts: COTC # 103

For those that aren't familiar, random thoughts is something I do about three times a year where I list anything and everything that's on my mind at the time. I also adapt the feature for when I write about episodes of 24.

Probably the biggest shocker to some of you will be that I don't have a cat myself now, but I have in the past and I do like them.

Anywho, hosting the carnival was Bruiser's idea, so he's helping me with this. He tells me that this is his way of extending a paw in friendship to the other species. He's got a lot of good ideas, he's just not good with my laptop.

"Lessee... Control+A, delete"

No Bruiser. That won't help.

Anyways, lets get this crazy train rolling.

Cats like to hide sometimes. Like in baskets or fabric, under socks or pillows.

Do mysteries involving cats sell as well as mysteries involving humans?
Just like Bruiser, cats have a great sense of just when to get in the way. *growl* Sorry, Bruiser. They can be out-witted, though.
Kittens like any little bit of sun that they can find and the grown-up ones do too. It seems to be very common.
They don't sell foot-warmers like this in stores.
We call this "the look" where I come from. Or is this more like it?
Someone always has to be different, don't they?
Where's Mills Lane when you need him?
Sometimes us humans just don't get it.
There's never anything wrong with sitting back on the porch.
Cats have a different approach to getting attention than dogs. Some cats try harder than others.
Cats may have ears, but they don't always listen.
Gardens are a really nice place to soak up the sun outside.
Cats practice catch and destroy, not catch and release like fishermen. Cat hunters (at least in this case) just take pictures.
Believe it or not, snowclones does not refer to fake snow.
Ever feel like you're on the top of the world?
I have a friend who called her old car Smudge, this is not her old car.
I hear that Jon Stewart was very disappointed when he found out about this.
What's with meatloaf? It's not meat, and it's not a loaf... I don't think.
Cats that are in someone else's territory can get nervous sometimes.
I've heard of puppy love, but a cat with men issues? aight...
A week in the life of Millie.
Socks = fun toys. Even White Sox... until they sweep your guys in the World Series.
I think I found someone to teach Bruiser how to use a computer.
Can I go outside? No, really, can I?
Forget being let out, I want in!
I'm ready for my uber-close-up!!!
Cats can't do everything.
Spring is coming and these cats have already noticed.
Cats could care less about the whole red state, blue state thing.
A cat can really lighten up a window and they love looking out of them.
Cats can be very curious.
W.W.M.D.? (I've got the right link in now... put in the trackback by accident... oops)
Well, if I remember right, there was a cat-like animal in Beauty and the Beast...
Blogging was light for two days at Mog's place.
The critters in my house wouldn't be doing this... they'd be scarfing it down.
Cats are paranoid about people thinking they're fat. They're not the only species that feels this way.
Bruiser tells me that if cats have catnip bubbles, he wants bacon bubbles.
I guess that getting above "dog-level" can be beneficial.
This is one reason why they invented digital cameras.
Some cats like to bounce up and down like a super ball.
Are they stubborn or just trying to save you some time?
Don't you sometime just want to be left alone?
Is Walter bigger than Elvis? I can tell you now that he's cuter :)
Piper's on the fence, but about what? Maybe it's what sport she wants to be in in the Cat Olympics.
Cats are very fascinating creatures, especially to kids.
Well, I've found the Cat Jazz musician, but is there a cat 3 Doors Down, Hoobastank or Toby Keith?
They didn't teach Hamlet quite like this back in high school.
Oh no, not the cone of shame. And why it was necessary. Harley will forgive you, I'm sure.
The Croc Hunter could use these footprints to track whatever beast left them.
This is what happens when you mix cats and rain.
Everybody say it with me now... awwwwwwww...
Computer time is the perfect time for your creatures to get in the way... unless you want them to... taking that picture up top with Bruiser was a lot of work.
And finally, a plug for the Carnival.

Thanks for joining us here this week, it's been a blast hosting, even when I got that headache yesterday. As always, you can check out the Carnival of the Cats homepage and next week's host, Music and Cats.

I'm off to give Bruiser a treat for being such a big help.

NOTE: I've had some issues with HaloScan sending trackbacks. If you'd like one sent for your post drop me a line at fatelvis04@gmail.com with your trackback URL and I'll try to send you one again.

Mandy???

The 24 ReportYes, that's right.

IMDb's listing for the next episode lists Mia Kirshner, who plays the recurring super-hott bisexual evil chick Mandy, as being in next week's episode. It's hard to say if this is true considering how reliable they were about Kim coming back, which caused at least one false Kim's back entry over at Blogs4Bauer.

I'll be happy if she does, but I don't expect it.

Enough links for you??? :)

Why Mac's suck

Missouri Senator Kit Bond on being a good neighbor

Edited to retitle

AP: Colleague Angers Hutichison With Hurricane Aid Comments

Senator Kit Bond has angered Texas colleagues by suggesting that Texas forgo compensation for accommodating hundreds of thousands of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Bond spoke up yesterday as the Senate Appropriations Committee weighed President Bush's request for 20 (B) billion dollars in relief for the Gulf Coast.

The Missouri Republican said he thinks community block grant money should go to Mississippi and Louisiana for their post-hurricane needs. Speaking of Texas, he said: "I think it's time we get back to being a good neighbor and not a paid companion."

Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison responded angrily. She says she's given full support to other states' requests for post-disaster relief -- including hundreds of (M) millions of dollars sought by Missouri after devastating floods in 1993.

Of course, they make this AP story about Katrina solely, but it's not about that. This funding concerns Rita too.

But, as we all know, Texas wasn't affected at all by any hurricanes. Yea, that's right, those two weeks in Fort Worth were just a vacation and some guy with a pick-up truck knocked down all those trees in town. Yea, that's right, that's what happened.

And all those Katrina evacuees that came here. No, they never really did. They're not clogging up our schools, hotels and prisons (look at what Houston's crime rate has done since Katrina)

So no, we don't deserve any federal funding. Nothing's happened so that we deserve it.

Bastard.

I know someone I won't vote for up there.

Good

There won't be a runoff in either governor primary.

That means Kinky will be able to start collecting signatures tomorrow.

There's a big event Saturday at the LogOn Cafe to kick off the drive in Jefferson County. I'll be signing then.

On a side note, I now have a very good feeling about this campaign. All the other folks at the meeting were Bush-haters, something I'm far from. That shows me that his campaign crosses party lines.

Saving myself for Kinky

The Texas primaries are today.

And I'm not voting.

This isn't normal for me.

Unfortunately, with the f'd up state of Texas politics, you can't vote in the primaries and then sign a petition to get an independent on the ballot.

Kinky Friedman is the guy I'm throwing my support behind for governor, and he's an independent, so I stay home today.

Until about 6:40, when I'm going to the LogOn Cafe for the local meeting tonight.

If nothing else, I'll know where to go to sign the petition.

Look at my mad photoshop skills

OK, I've had a while to pull it together now...

The 24 ReportYea, I was a little emotional earlier. Still am. I can just put my thoughts together better now.

Let's face it, what happened the first hour-forty-five is not that impotant.

That ending made me very sad. Not just to see Edgar die, but Chloe's reaction. It's no secret that I like her. A lot. I think her reaction hit me harder than Edgar himself.

The 24 ReportI've been under the weather the past few days and just don't feel like putting in the work this week to do something majorly in-depth like normal... maybe I'll do a few brief thoughts on it afterwards, but nothin big.

Sorry, y'all. You must be so dissappointed.

The ignored CD phenomenon

It's happened to me again.

You buy a few good CD's, but one or two of them are so good that you tend to all but ignore the other one.

The first time this happened I bought Green Day's American Idiot and Staind's Chapter V the same day. The Green Day CD got (and still gets) tons of playtime in the car while the Staind CD is sitting aroundin my room with a few tracks off of it on my MP3 player.

This time, it's two Hoobastank CD's (the top two on the list that comes up) and Hinder's Extreme Behavior. Yea, I know I'm late on the Hoobastank CD's. Call me stupid, but an ex-girlfriend had recommended them a while back and I finally got past the silly name and shelled out the cash.

It's not like the neglected CD's are bad ones, they just pale in comparison to the other ones.

Poor CD's.

Busted!!!

Saturday Dogblogging 3.4.06

This week, Petey and his half brother Charlie are joining us.

"Look, Charlie, we just might sucker them into thinking we're sweet and innocent after all."

Charlie doesn't live with us, but he did spend a night last week.

Petey is currently recovering from being neutered. He didn't have both balls drop so we went and had it done because just not having it done put him at a higher risk for cancer in the one that didn't drop. He';s a trooper and should be back to normal in a few days

Remember, Carnival of the Cats is here next Sunday. This week's will be put up tomorrow at roughly 6:00 PM CST at Catcall and Laurence is trying to get 100 submissions.

Re-watching the first season DVD's...

...I noticed something.

These screen captures are from the first episode at about the 8:30 mark.

That looks like a METRO bus... the thing is, that METRO is in Houston, not L.A. (at least I don't think)

Wonder how they pulled that off...

24: The Game

The 24 ReportPlatform: PS2

Players: 1

One-word description: Addicting

I mean like the GTA Series addicting. Most of my free time goes to playing the game. It's a challenge to the point that it can get VERY frustrating at times. There's a good mix of easy and hard levels and they tend to get progressively harder overall.

I haven't gone all the way through the game, but from what I have done of it, I'd give it a 9.5 so far. A definate buy, although people who don't watch 24 may not get it.

And if you don't watch the show, go get the first two seasons on DVD and watch them before you play the game, as it's set between seasons two and three, so you'll know all the backstories of characters before you play.

And there's no Nekkid Mandy. Yet.

No, she's not nekkid in that pic.

Favorite Bands/Artists

OK, maybe this'll kick up a little conversation... Maybe even a comment from the oh-so-shy Layla ;)

No, these aren't in order, just as they come to mind.

  • Toby Keith - If you hadn't figured it out already...
  • 3 Doors Down - Awesome band, and just as good live.
  • Green Day - I've always liked them, but they didn't crack this list until I finally went out and bought American Idiot.
  • Big & Rich - I just love their unique style.
  • Nickelback - I'll admit it, Photograph made me cry. Not when I first heard it, but when I went back to Beaumont for the first time after Rita just to pick some stuff up and head back to Fort Worth. I was just close enough to Houston to start getting The Buzz and that song came on. Didn't realize until that moment just how much I missed being home.
  • Norah Jones - Yea, I know. A shocker. The girl can sing though and her CD's are really relaxing, something I need a lot of sometimes.
  • Trapt - Very underappreciated. I worked one of their concerts and was forced to hold the lead singer's butt during Headstrong so he didn't bust his head wide open standing on the barricade in front of the mosh pit.

I need to go pick up a few CD's sometime soon. I don't have any Hoobastank, but I like a lot of their songs. It's just me getting off my butt and going to FYE.

Any suggestions for me???
